Kari Bleivik is a vocalist, composer and educator, born in Trondheim, Norway, now based in Leeds, UK.



Kari has Bachelor and Masters degrees in Jazz Performance from Leeds College of Music, as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Performing Arts Education from Royal Northern College of Music.

She is Principal Lecturer and Course Leader at Leeds College of Music where she teaches a range of subjects alongside working as a freelance vocalist and composer. Every summer she also teaches jazz singing on the Music4People summer school.



Kari has played a central role in the establishment of the Leeds Improvised Music Association, LIMA, and organized the LIMA festival in 2008. She also wrote commission music for the LIMA Orchestra performed at the FUSE festival in 2009.

She released her debut album with the duo Sonic Stories on Vossajazz Records in 2006, and is currently recording the Sonic Stories Orchestra album due to be released 2013/14.

​She also sings with Røyst Trio, Vehere, WoCalling, The Tommy Evans Orchestra and several other bands and projects, and features on several albums with some of these projects.

​

Kari was named ‘Vocalist of the Year’ by the Jazz Yorkshire Awards in 2012.
